Abstract:
Abstract 163 actinomycetes strains were isolated from mangrove sediments in Zhangzhou, Fujian, China. Five indicator strains (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, Rhizoctonia solani) and three tumor cells (BEL7402, A549 and HL60) were used to test the antimicrobial and antitumor activities of the isolated strains. 42.3% of the fermentation broth of the actinomycetes showed antimicrobial activities, while 37.4% of the fermentation broth of actinomycetes possessed antitumor activities. 16S rDNA sequence analysis of the actinomycetes strains showed that they belong to Streptomyces (89%), Micromonospora (6.1%), Sacharomonospora(0.6%), Actinomadura (3.7%) and Nocardiopsis(0.6%). Three isolates were suggested as novel species of Streptomyces based on their 16S rDNA sequences. The highest 16S rDNA similarity could be found in each blast search and it was lower than 97%.
