Abstract:
Abstract Scanning eletron microscopic abservation demonstrated the total length of the spermatozoon of Natrix piscater is about 110 μm . It consists of two parts: head and tail.The head is about 8.5 μm long and 0.6 μm in diameter. It is like a slight column with a subacute front and a little curned. The tail consists of 4 segments: neck region, midpiece, principle piece and endpiece. It has a relatively long midpiece,about 73 μm, accounting for 2/3 of the totle lenth of the spermatozoon.The mitochondrial sheath consists of about 500 rings and more than 5 000 mitochondrials. Transmission eletron microscopic abservation revealed the head acrosomal complex covers 1/2 of the front of the nucleus.The structure of the tail neck region is relatively complex and consisted of a capitulum with the connecting piece,proximal centriole,distal centriole and mitochondrial. And these mitochondrials here do not form mitochondrial sheath. The annulus is between the midpiece and the principle piece,but the recess is not distinctive.Giving a 9+2 pattern,the axoneme complex runs through almost whole sperm tail. Plate 1, Ref 6
