Abstract:
Abstract Twenty stations were established in the near shore regions of South Fujian Shoal (λ(E) 116°10′~119°00′, φ(N)21°20′~24°10′) on summer and winter cruises during the period from August. 1997 to Feb. and Mar.1998 to investigate the distribution pattern of marine bacterial β glucosidase activity (βGlcA) by using FMS technique, imporving understanding of the βGlcA distribution, as well as the relationship among marine bacterial biomass, productivity and βGlcA, and environmental factors in the Taiwan Strait. The results show that: ①The average of βGlcA at the Southern stations of the Taiwan Strait in summer is 1.94 nmol/L-1 h-1, while in winter, the average of βGlcA at the Northern stations is 0.86 nmol/L-1 h-1, and the range of varying (0.34~ 1.89 nmol/L-1 h-1) is much smaller than that in summer (0.31~8.1 nmol/L-1 h-1); ②According to the carbon expression counting, the βGlcA is 0.14 μgc/L-1 h-1 and 0.062 μgc/L-1 h-1 in summer and winter, respectively. They are all higher than the bacterial productivity in the two seasons, respectively; ③The βGlcA gradually rises from offshore water to nearshore water; ④The correlation between the βGlcA and the bacterial secondary production is not so completely obvious; ⑤The correlation between the section distribution and daily variation of the βGlcA and the bacterial production is not very obvious; ⑥In the surface water, the distribution character of a single bacterial βGlcA is similar with that of the total βGlcA in the whole sea area.
