Abstract:
γ-cyclodextrin based metal–organic framework (γ-CD-MOF) has proved to be very attractive for applications including gas storage and separation, drug delivery, environmental purification and sensing. However, the poor water stability of γ-CD-MOF hinders the practical application of such porous material. Increasing the resistance to humid environments is a major challenge for the application of γ-CD-MOF in real-world utility. A facile solution-immersion method was developed to enhance the water stability of γ-CD-MOF through external surface modification with span 85 based on the physical adsorption of hydroxyterminal of Span 85 and metal ions in γ-CD-MOF.The results show that γ-CD-MOF-SP85 well remains its crystal structure andmorphology a fter 25 days’ exposure in 92% relative humidity. However, the as-synthesized γ-CD-MOF has nearly collapsed and lose their permanent porosity after exposed the same humidity for 1 day . In addition, γ-CD-MOF-SP85 shows adsorption capacity for carbon dioxide and formaldehyde. The hydrophobic coating provides durable protection of encapsulated γ-CD-MOF crastal againt the attack of water molecules and therefore inproves their water stability.This simply and facile one-step strategy would open a new avenue for preparation of moisture stable MOF.
