Abstract:
The biomass of plants and grasshopper population of the dry steppe at different desertification levels were investigated in Yanchi County, Ningxia, and the structure and changes in diversity and abundance of the plant and grasshopper communities in the desertification progress of the steppe, as well as their relationships were studied. The results indicated that the successions of plant and grsshopper communities occurred during the desertification progress; the changes in plant communities directly affected the diversity of grasshopper communities, but the changing trends or the two were not parallelly developing. The desertification of steppe greatly affected the diversity and abundance of the grasshopper communities, desertification led to the changes of vegetation structure and soil hardness, which changed the conditions of egg-laying habitats of grasshoppers.
